Hawaii Five-0 season 10 will be the final installment of the series, with the finale set to air next month on CBS. Many were shocked by the news, but the reason why they decided to end the show might be acceptable to many. Here's the reason why the series is now ending after running for 10 seasons.
A recent report via Deadline revealed why Hawaii Five-0 season 10 would be the final one for the police procedural. The outlet reported that series star Alex O'Loughlin (McGarrett) decided not to renew his contract because of a particular reason.
Reportedly, the actor suffered a serious back injury during the early seasons of the series and he has been dealing with the effects since then. He received stem cell treatment after season 8 which allowed him to come back, though he felt he couldn't do it again.
There were previous conversations that the show would bring on board a new partner alongside Scott Caan's Danno. However, all parties decided that it's the right time to wrap up the series and Hawaii Five-0 season 10 would be the last one.
Prior to the announcement that Hawaii Five-0 season 10 is the final installment, some reports claim the series would continue until season 11. After all, the show brought Lance Gross on board as a character who could've become a series regular in the new season. Yet, that plan clearly changed.
Meanwhile, President of CBS Entertainment Kelly Kahl said it's not easy to say goodbye to a hit franchise. He explained that the show has carried on the legacy of the original with distinction, established its own signature style, and has been a huge success for them from episode 1.
Kahl then thanked the talents of the producers, writers, as well as the cast and crew. All of them played a key role for a decade and helped them established their powerhouse Friday night. Although it's now ending, he's proud of the show's quality and longevity.
Hawaii Five-0 also stars Chi McBride, Ian Anthony Dale, Kimee Balmilero, Meaghan Rath, Dennis Chun, Beulah Koale, Taylor Wily, and Katrina Law. The series also went through multiple cast transitions, including controversial exits of Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park after Season 7.
As for who's returning in the series finale, it has been confirmed that recurring cast members Mark Dacascos (Wo Fat), James Marsters (Victor Hesse), and Sadler (John McGarrett) are all coming back.
Hawaii Five-0 season 10 will wrap the series with a two-hour finale set to air on Friday, Apr. 3, on CBS.
