Johnny Depp could return to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise to reprise his role as pirate Captain Jack Sparrow after the actor cleared his name on domestic abuse allegations hurled against him by his ex-wife Amber Heard.

According to a report by the Daily Mail, Johnny Depp could come back to the franchise to play Jack Sparrow again for an upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean installment being developed by Chernobyl writer Craig Mazin and franchise veteran Ted Elliot.

It can be recalled that at the height of Johnny Depp's highly publicized divorce with actress Amber Heard, Disney confirmed that the actor will no longer be part of the planned reboot of the franchise. While the studio did not cite an official reason that Jack Sparrow will no longer be a part of the series, it was speculated that Depp's domestic issues tarnished his image and cost him the job, Independent reported.

After recorded audio clips of Johnny Depp's conversations with Amber Heard were recently released, the tables were turned and his name was cleared with Heard's admission to instigating violence in their relationship.

Fans called for justice for Johnny Depp and highlighted that men also suffer from domestic abuse.Fans have also taken to change.org to start a petition to bring Jack Sparrow back to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise since the series will not be complete without the participation of the iconic character.

The most recent petition was signed by close to 175,000 netizens, surpassing its 150,000 signature goal. Meanwhile, fans are also calling for Amber Heard's replacement in her major role as Mera in DC's Aquaman franchise.

In a separate petition, Aquaman fans demanded that the role of Mera be recast after it was revealed that Amber Heard proved to be less than truthful with her claims of being abused by Johnny Depp during their relationship.

The petition further claimed that keeping Heard as a part of the franchise will be very bad for the delivery of Aquaman's advocacies about water pollution and protection of marine life since her credibility was questionable.

Fans suggested that the role be recast with Emilia Clarke playing the role of Aquaman's love interest. It can be recalled that Emilia Clarke, who played Daenerys Targaryen in the epic HBO series Game of Thrones proved her chemistry with Aquaman star Jason Momoa, who played her husband Khal Drogo in the saga, Nerdbot reported.
