Viewers will be seeing a new face in New Amsterdam season 2, as it was confirmed that Daniel Dae Kim will be joining the series. The Good Doctor producer and Hawaii Five-0 veteran is joining Dr. Max Goodwin and the rest of the group this season.
In a report via Deadline, Kim will have a recurring role in New Amsterdam season 2, where he'll be playing the role of Dr. Cassian Shin. The character is the new head trauma surgeon and he will be introduced in the upcoming April 7 episode, titled "Pandemic."
In the episode, an unknown and deadly strain of the flu caused chaos at the hospital. And then, Dr. Shin's unorthodox medical practices will test Sharpe's patience. Kim's character may stir things up at the hospital and his arrival may cause some conflicts to other characters.
Kim is no stranger to medical drama series, as he serves as an executive produced on ABC's The Good Doctor, where he also had a recurring role as Dr. Jackson Han. Aside from that, Kim also played as Chin Ho Kelly for seven seasons on CBS' Hawaii Five-0.
Meanwhile, some were worried that Dr. Shin's arrival in New Amsterdam season 2 means departure for Dr. Floyd Reynolds in the future. The latter is planning to move to San Francisco with his soon-to-be wife, meaning he has to leave the hospital, Dr. Goodwin, and the rest of the group.
There's a chance that Dr. Reynolds might leave, that's why the series adds a new character to find balance. Yet, Dr. Shin is the head trauma surgeon, while Dr. Reynolds is the head of cardiovascular surgery. Thus, Kim's character is not a replacement and the series may add new faces along the day.
In another report, New Amsterdam season 2 is not the final one for the medical drama series as NBC renewed the show for an additional three seasons in January. That only means the series will run until around 2023, which is good news for fans.

New Amsterdam season 2 airs every Tuesday night on NBC. However, no new episode aired this week due to the presidential election. The arrival of the new episode has been pushed to next week, Tuesday, Mar. 10.
