Prince Philip retired at the age of 96 after serving the monarchy for decades. And while he now lives away from the royal world, he is surely aware of the drama surrounding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s withdrawal from royal life.
Now, a royal expert claims that Prince Philip is unlikely to have seen Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in their final Royal engagement. even though the Duke of Edinburgh is already retired, he maintains a strong sense of royal duty, which he probably didn’t see in the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
“We don’t know if Prince Philip saw Harry and Meghan during their recent visit when the undertook their last official royal duties as senior royals,” Richard Fitzwilliams said. “I strongly doubt that he would have made a special appearance as he has a strong sense of duty and he would not have endorsed their wish for independence and certainly not the way they handled it.”
Fitzwilliams noted that Prince Philip also had to give up his career to support Queen Elizabeth. But instead of living his life complaining about being a part of the royal family, the Duke of Edinburgh decided to make the most out of it.
“He had his own struggles against at establishment figures who didn’t like him or want him involved in matters of state when she ascended the throne,” the royal expert said. “Instead he created his Awards scheme and was attached at one time to over 800 organizations.”
While Prince Philip remained silent regarding the matter, Richard Fitzwilliams shared in an earlier report that he is not too pleased with how Prince Harry and Meghan Markle did their announcement. The royal expert said that the Duke of Edinburgh may have taken the whole thing with "a dim view.”
“During his whole life the Duke has shown devotion to the Queen and service to the monarchy and it is likely he will have taken a dim view of Harry and Meghan’s recent activities,” Richard Fitzwilliams said. “These included releasing a statement saying they intended to step back as senior royals without warning the Queen and other senior royals.”
Although Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been talking with senior royals about their intention to step back since the summer, their announcement blindsided Queen Elizabeth, and Prince Philip may have not appreciated that.
