The Prince of Wales said it was a heart-warming scene to see a lot of people gathered for the event, showing how determined they were to help everyone who was affected by the catastrophe, Hello! He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to join the occasion and to show how he and his family care about the "apocalyptic vision of Hell" that the Australian people had been through the past few months.
Prince Charles continued to say that he admired the "extraordinary determination and resilience of the Australian people." He added that the way the firefighters and other emergency services, along with the huge number of volunteers, risked their lives to defend the people seemed to be the representation of the essence of the Australian character for him.
"At times we saw that enduring spirit of Aussie 'mateship' tested by exhaustion, by the greatest pressure, and by the gravest danger," he explained. "It is not surprising that the firies' helmet now stands alongside the diggers' slouch hat as a powerful symbol of the courage, resilience, and generosity for which Australians are renowned."
Prince Charles added that at the very worse of time, everyone saw the best of Australia. Knowing the Aussies for 54 years, that unquestionably made the Duke of Cornwall very proud.
According to News.com.au, there were over $400,000 AUD raised through the ticket sales and other donations at the event. The auction itself was also set to raise more significant amount of money for the country.
