The coronavirus is seriously affecting the entertainment industry. The list of movies that are supposed to premiere in the coming days is getting longer by the day because of COVID-19 fear around the world. A Quiet Place Part II has just been added to the list.
Film director John Krasinski and Paramount Pictures confirmed that the release date of the sequel to his science-fiction horror film has been delayed indefinitely due to coronavirus. A Quiet Place Part II had its world premiere in New York City on March 8 and was originally slated to hit cinemas worldwide on March 20. However, due to the threat of COVID-19 to spread in a large gathering of people in one place such as a movie theater, the film executive decided to delay its release.
In his tweet, Krasinski said he is extremely excited for fans to see how the Abbott family will survive now that their patriarch, Lee, is dead. However, due to the COVID-19 outbreak, he said watching the movie together will have to wait.
"Due to the ever-changing circumstances of what's going on in the world around us, now is clearly not the right time," the actor wrote.
A Quiet Place Part II followed the decision of other films to delay their premiere. So far, the movies that postponed their release dates are James Bond sequel No Time To Die, Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway, Fast & Furious 9, The Lovebirds, and Disney's offerings Mulan, The New Mutants, and Antlers. The Walt Disney Co. has not yet announced whether or not it will also delay the release of Marvel's Black Widow on April 24.
Movie theaters across Europe have closed as governments enforced more drastic measures to contain the outbreak. Cinemas in North America haven't been shut down so far, but that could change as health officials are advising the public to avoid non-essential public gatherings.
Meanwhile, Krasinski still wrote and directed the sequel of the hit thriller film. The prequel grossed $340 million at the global box office.
A Quiet Place Part II will focus on Evelyn Abbott (Emily Blunt) as she and her children Regan (Millicent Simmonds) and Marcus (Noah Jupe) leave their home in total silence to find a new safe place in order to survive. Lee Abbot (Krasinski) will briefly appear in the flashback sequences in the sequel. Cillian Murphy also joined the cast as Emmett.
A Quiet Place Part II has released a trailer, a featurette, and a couple of teasers to promote the movie. One of the clips is focused on Krasinski's character when the attack of the terrifying creatures on anyone who makes a sound started.
