The previous episode of FBI, titled "Broken Promises," featured Maggie contemplating a decision that could possibly affect her career in the future. Because of this, viewers speculated that Missy Peregrym's character might be leaving the series at some point.
Maggie's fate in FBI is uncertain after she received a job offer from Assistant Director in Charge (ADIC). While Isobel doesn't want to lose her, she's also aware that it would only take her for about a few months. But then, Maggie planned to turn down the offer.
However, Isobel warned her not to be too hasty as the ADIC won't ask her again if she turns her down once. Maggie started contemplating and deciding what she can do. Initially, she told OA she had a work thing causing her to be late to a crime scene. Later on, she told him everything.
Maggie revealed to OA that the ADIC gave her an assignment and an undercover deal. She explained that the ADIC didn't give her all the detail about the offer, but it's a big case. Maggie then told OA that she believes she fits the profile they're looking for and this would be good for her career as well.
By the end of the episode, Maggie finally made a decision and chose to take the assignment. She called it an opportunity she couldn't pass up and she left the next day. But then, there were speculations that something wrong may happen on the assignment and she won't be back soon.
Some think Peregrym might be leaving the series, but this is just probably a way to temporarily write out the character due to Peregrym's pregnancy. The actress announced the news via Instagram in October 2019 and also shared photos from the set at the beginning of February, showing her 8-month old belly.
Since Peregrym is one of the lead characters in the series, they likely shift her character's storyline in a sensible way and without permanently writing her off in FBI. For now, fans shouldn't be worried about the character's future and that Maggie may still be part of the series long-term.
FBI airs its new episodes every Tuesday night on CBS. However, there is no new episode airing next week and viewers need to wait for a little while. Reportedly, the next episode will instead be airing on Mar. 24, with the title "American Dreams."
