Microsoft's most recent update could be posing a serious risk to Windows 10 PCs. The said update challenges the device's antivirus protection.

Windows Defender Antivirus Scanning Issues

Windows 10 PCs are now at serious risk as the latest Microsoft update causes the Windows Defender Antivirus to malfunction, according to the reports that surfaced online on Sunday. The reports say that the latest update from the software giant caused the platform's integrated antivirus to stop in the middle of the scanning process and issue an alert saying it skipped scanning specific files or worse, it quit scanning.

What brings suspicion to Windows 10 users is that after the Windows Defender issues a warning that it stopped scanning, a message will later appear saying no threats were found. Users are left unsure of which among statements to trust. They are also left with the questions of which among their files were skipped from scanning.

A report posted yesterday gives Windows 10 users a glimpse of hope, saying that the said Windows Defender warnings could be false. The report further stated that there is a possibility that the scans were successfully done, although users do not have concrete assurance.

What Windows 10 Users Has To Say

Windows 10 users expressed their interrupted Windows Defender experience online via Reddit, some sharing their own experience and dismay.

One user said in a statement that two out of his three computers operating under Windows 10 experienced stopped scanning while in progress while his third device ran Windows Defender Antivirus well. The said device did not get the March cumulative update, which made him believe that it was truly the most recent Microsoft update on Windows 10, causing the irregularities.

Third-Party Antivirus Blocked

Users who wanted to keep their Windows 10 devices secured and do not want to rely on the results they get from Windows Defender alone resorted to installing third-party antivirus software. They later found out that their Windows 10 PCs are now blocking them from installing the said software as well.

Other users trying to install Malwarebytes, a third-party malware checker, also failed to add protection to their Windows 10 devices. Sadly, their attempts were unsuccessful, receiving a response saying that Windows SmartScreen can't be reached.

Reports are looking at the Windows Defender version 4.18.2003 as the reason for the issue. The mentioned version of the antivirus came along Microsoft's effort to deal with other problems.

As of the moment, Windows 10 users are still waiting for statements from Microsoft regarding the issue.
