The calls for President Donald Trump's resignation are now getting stronger after his Twitter spat with Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker. Pritzker earlier complained about the government's lack of action to combat the coronavirus outbreak that resulted in a widespread across the country, making it harder and costlier for Illinois to fight the pandemic.
The feud began when Pritzker said on CNN's State of the Union with Jake Tapper, via Chicago Tribune, that the White House should issue a nationwide "shelter-in-place order" as the number of cases in the U.S. started to increase. The lack of government action incited the governor to cancel mass gatherings in Illinois, closing of schools, and ordering everyone to stay at home.
Pritzker believed that these moves could have done nationally, but Donald Trump didn't do so. However, as he wanted to protect the Illinois residents, he had to make his own decision to protect the health and safety of his people, totaling to 12.7 million.
He also added that the White House didn't have enough protocols to protect the first responders and health care workers. Pritzker said that it could have been a coordinated effort by the federal government, but they ended up competing with each other and other countries due to the high demand with medical equipment, like PPE.
Donald Trump then answered Pritzker's allegations on Twitter, saying him, other governors, and CNN's fake news should never blame the federal government with their shortcomings. "We are there to back you up should you fail, and always will be!" he assured.
Pritzker clapped back by insisting the POTUS wasted time and could have taken proper action by protecting Americans and Illinoisans. "You should be leading a national response instead of throwing tantrums from the back seat," he said.
He then asked Donald Trump about the tests and PPE they needed. Pritzker then asked him to get off Twitter and do his job.
Netizens are also showing their support to people who have been criticizing Donald Trump for mishandling the coronavirus outbreak. One Twitter user suggested that the president should just call Pritzker and ask what assistance and help he needed for his people. Another one added that instead of making over 70 tweets a day and watching cable-TV, he should just resign for the good of the country.
Bangor Daily News added that Donald Trump is a danger to the nation's public health and called for his resignation immediately. He didn't mind the coronavirus outbreak's seriousness from the start for its possible effect on his political fortunes and the economy. After he acknowledges the disease's realness, the situation is now difficult and likely to persist.
