The Rookie season 2 episode 16 is arriving within a few weeks on ABC, with the title "The Overnight." This episode proved to be fun and exciting, as it will feature an American Idol crossover. We'll be seeing some of the characters meeting the host and judges of the singing competition. But then, the episode may still deliver some action-packed scenes.
In The Rookie season 2 episode 16, Officers Chen and Bradford will be responding to a call at the Los Angeles audition of American Idol. This leads to Chen meeting host Ryan Seacrest face-to-face, as well as judges Lionel Richie, Luke Bryan, and Katy Perry. Also, Chen will befriend a reporter, whose motives are seemingly not clear at all.
The episode is different compared to the previous episode, especially since it features an odd crossover event. But then, many were happy to see this kind of crossover, especially they'll be seeing Seacrest, Richie, Bryan, and Perry appearing on the series. Meanwhile, it remains to be seen what happened at the Los Angeles audition, as well as who called Chen and Bradford.
It's also worth noting that The Rookie follows up American Idol on the schedule, so a crossover even just likely makes sense. But then, the singing competition may not have a big part in this episode, as the judges and host probably don't have time to film something. And based on the synopsis, the show is just a part of something that the officers are going to investigate.
In addition, we'll be seeing Chen befriending a reporter. Possibly, she saw something bizarre and different about this reporter that's why she decided to be friends with her. The reporter's motives aren't clear as well, so it only makes sense Chen becomes suspicious about her. The reporter is possibly hiding something, which will be uncovered in this episode.
Meanwhile, there is no new episode of The Rookie airing this week. The series will have a one-week hiatus, likely because of what's happening around the world right now -- especially the COVID-16 concerns. Perhaps, according to CarterMatt, ABC is trying to stretch some of the remaining episodes of the series for as long as possible.
