Girls' Generation Tiffany recently spoke out about the racism being directed towards Asians amid the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) global health pandemic. The singer took to Instagram to lament how Asians are being treated in light of the situation.
"2020 has been an emotional free fall for us all. I've been doing my part to stay at home. It saddens me to see the racism Asians around the world are faced with, and I hope everyone can remember humanity and love above anything else through drastic times like this. We are fighting this together. The world needs a hug right now," she said.
It can be recalled that many celebrities have sounded off against racism against Asians as the world collectively faces the threat of COVID-19. Chungha recently experienced the same during her recent attendance to Italy to attend fashion week.
In a post, Chungha shared a post promoting Milano Fashion Week wearing a designer line. However, as she attended the Iceberg Fall/Winter 2020 collection show, a netizen shared a snap of Chungha and used a derogatory comment.
"The coronavirus is approaching," the poster said in Italian. After it was reported by several fans, the image was taken down to be replaced with a version with no caption. It was later on taken down completely.
According to fans, they were disappointed by the attack against Chungha who did not deserve to be treated badly. Some netizens said that the comment was mean and uncalled for, given that Chungha simply attended the event as a celebrity.
Former Hawaii Five-O star Daniel Dae Kim recently announced that he was found positive of COVID-19 and addressed the racism with sarcasm.
"Yes, I'm Asian. And yes, I have coronavirus. But I did not get it from China, I got it in America. In New York City. Despite what certain political leaders want to call it, I don't consider the place where it's from as important as the people who are sick and dying," Kim said in an Instagram video.
The star said he was diagnosed with COVID-19, ironically, while filming for the series New Amsterdam, where he plays a doctor who gets recruited to a hospital to deal with a flu epidemic.
Kim said that he is recovering well after going on self-isolation and being prescribed some medication by his doctor. He said that he did not have to go to the hospital for confinement but instead strictly followed his doctor's orders, Deadline reported.
