Supernatural season 15 is the final installment of The CW series and it is currently on a break due to several reasons. Viewers may likely need to wait for a while, as the show may not be coming back anytime soon on the network.
Executive producer Andrew Dabb confirmed earlier this week that the Monday episode of Supernatural season 15, aired on Mar. 23, will be the last one for now. There's a lot of post-production work that needed to be done for the remaining episodes, and the series is not yet done filming at the moment.
Dabb confirmed via Twitter that the editors and post-production crew weren't able to finish the remaining episodes. That's also one of the reasons why the schedule of series has been changed. Originally, there's a plan to air another episode on Mar. 30, but that will not happen now.
The CW hasn't yet announced the official return date of Supernatural season 15, but that may take for a while as some things are still uncertain. The series halted its production due to COVID-19 concerns and there's still no confirmation when the cast and crew will start working again to wrap things up.
According to a report from Deadline, all filmed episodes of Supernatural season 15 will be delivered and aired this coming spring, as the post-production is expected to be done during that time. Hence, the remaining episodes of the final installment will likely air alongside each other.
One of the main reasons why the series decided to do this is that it would be easier to market these episodes rather than airing them at a certain time and then come back again. In addition, the series already had several hiatuses, so it only makes sense they now want to move in a different direction.
Supernatural already filmed 18 episodes when the production was shut down. Over the past years, the series has been using Vancouver postproduction/VFX company, which also shut down because of the COVID-19 threats.
Dabb said their visual effects and sound departments have been closed due to the outbreak, so they couldn't finish the remaining episodes. But, he assured fans that these episodes will be produced, noting that: "It's not a matter of 'if', it's a matter of 'when'."
As for what stories we can expect in the remaining episodes of Supernatural season 15, viewers should be prepared for some big showdowns. The Winchester brothers will be facing off against Chuck, and the finale could also tie all the loose ends and will deliver a satisfying conclusion.
