Prince William would like to return to his former job as an air ambulance pilot amid the coronavirus pandemic. The Duke of Cambridge, reportedly, wants to take an active part in helping medical frontliners who are saving lives and helping the sick.

A source told The Sun that Prince William has been seriously thinking about flying for the emergency services again after his visit to the NHS Call Centre with Kate Middleton in mid-March. The source added that Prince William wants to do more to help in this public health crisis.

Prince William was prompted to be grounded as an air ambulance pilot after he took on more responsibilities as a senior member of the royal family. As the second in line to the British throne, Prince William is being groomed as the future king. So, he is taking on more roles from Queen Elizabeth and his father, Prince Charles.

At his visit to the NHS Call Centre, Prince William apparently said that he missed working as an air ambulance pilot, where he had a life-saving role. This doesn't downplay his current role as a future monarch though.  In fact, the source said that he has an even bigger responsibility in the royal family since Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles are currently isolating and limiting their interaction as they are vulnerable to the coronavirus.

Prince Charles was recently diagnosed as positive for COVID-19. However, he was no longer in self-isolation as of this week since his doctors gave him an all clear. The Prince of Wales, however, is staying put in Birkhall as his wife, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, remains in self-isolation as well.

Meanwhile, Prince William has been staying with Kate and his kids in Anmer Hall in Norfolk as the U.K. government is still limiting movement across the country to control the spread of the virus. It is not likely that he and his wife will be attending royal engagements in the next couple of weeks as the social distancing guidelines are imposed.

But even as he's not doing his royal work for the meantime, the Duke of Cambridge successfully raised millions in a fundraiser for the National Emergencies Trust, which will be helping out the vulnerable sector. Prince William is the patron of the said charity, which will benefit over 46 local communities. The money raised for the fundraising effort will be given to organizations that take care of COVID-19 patients.

Earlier, Prince William was also made London Air Ambulance Charity's newest patron as he has experienced first-hand what it's like to work as a first responder for critical medical cases.
