Fantagio is losing all five members of its acting group 5urpsisa after the members' contracts expired with the company. Seo Kang Joon, Gong Myung, Kang Tae Oh, Lee Tae Hwan, and Yoo Il all chose to sign with different agencies.
It can be recalled that last month, four members of 5urprise Seo Kang Joon, Kang Tae Oh, Lee Tae Hwan, and Yoo Il announced that they will be joining a new start-up company along with their staff members that they have worked with for a long time, Soompi reported.
Gong Myung, in a recent update, reported that he will be joining Saram Entertainment, the agency that handles the careers of Lee Je Hoon, Honey Lee, Jo Jin Woong, Yoon Kye Sang, Girls' Generation's Sooyoung.
"Gong Myung is an actor who equally has both acting skills and star quality. We will provide full support for Gong Myung, who has proven his endless potential through his wide spectrum and diverse charms, in order for him to display his capabilities as an actor."
In their announcement about the end of 5urprise's exclusive contract with Fantagio, the agency wished the actors well as they embarked on the next chapter of their career.
"We would like to thank all of the fans who have supported Seo Kang Joon, Gong Myung, Kang Tae Oh, Lee Tae Hwan, and Yoo Il, and we ask for your continued love and support for the five actors in the future. Thank you," they said.
5usprise is a unique concept introduced by Fantagio in 2013 when it introduced its new batch of actors as an acting unit.
Similar to an idol concept, Seo Kang Joon, Gong Myung, Kang Tae Oh, Lee Tae Hwan, and Yoo Il were known as members of 5urprise and were packaged as a group through the web drama After School: Lucky or Not. Up until 5urpsise's contract ended on March 31, Fantagio was the only agency to introduce an actor only group in South Korea, Hello Kpop reported.
Throughout their career with Fantagio, all five members were able to carve out their niche in the acting industry. Seo Kang Joon became well known for his roles in Cheese in the Trap, Are You Human Too, The Third Charm, and most recently, When the Weather is Fine opposite Park Min Young.
Gong Myung, for his part, made a name for himself for his notable roles in Be Melodramatic, Drinking Solo and Revolutionary Love.
Yoo Il may not be as visible in films and dramas but he established himself as a top stage actor, starring in Monster, Casa Valentina and Secretly, Greatly.
Lee Tae Hwan also made his mark in long running series Father, I'll Take Care of You and My Golden Life. Of course, fans won't miss Kang Tae Oh for his roles in The Tale of Nokdu, My First Love and That Man Oh Soo.
