Meghan Markle's hairstylist, George Northwood, recently talked about the Duchess of Sussex's famous hairstyles when she was still a senior member of the royal family. Now that she stepped down as a senior royal and parted ways with the hair guru, the salon owner gave professional tips to the public to keep their mane in style amid the coronavirus outbreak and the United Kingdom lockdown.
In an interview with The Times, the salon owner shared some expert advice about how they can professionally trim their hair while hair salons are also shut down. He suggested to maintain the mane's original style and shape and avoid trying a new look. Also, to do this, they have to have the right tools, like a decent pair of hairdresser scissors, not the one from the kitchen, and a long narrow-gauge comb.
Preparation
Just like in a salon, George Northwood advised that when you start cutting your hair, you should be in front of a large mirror with good lighting. But before doing this, the hair should be washed and dried into its usual style to see the fringe, split ends, and layers that should be cut. Never cut your hair wet as you may cut it longer than intended.
Use Comb To Cut The Fringe
To cut the fringe, George Northwood suggested separating it from the long hair and tying the rest on the back so it will be out of the way. After that, comb the fringe from underneath a number of times and then comb it again to lift the fringe outward and trim the very tip of the hair.
"Make sure you chip into the fringe - it's called point-cutting (you point the scissors like a clock's hand pointing to seven). Do not simply cut across in a straight line," he explained. Don't pull the fringe upward with your finger before cutting it, as you may cut more hair than expected.
Cutting The Short And Long Hair
If you have a short hair, George Northwood said that just do a minimal trim, stick to areas that need a quick fix, and follow the line your hairdresser did. For the longer mane, avoid cutting in a straight line to avoid an "awkward gappy finish." After you part your hair, tip your head forward and make small cuts in the ends of the hair to remove split ends and have a softer and more natural result.
According to Harper's Bazaar, George Northwood is the man behind Meghan Markle's messy bun that went famous after her wedding to Prince Harry in 2018. He is also the one responsible for the former actress' sleek up-do at the British Fashion Awards in the same year and the loose waves during her tour of Australia.
