Manifest season 2 finale left a huge cliffhanger and new mysteries for Flight 828 passengers that needed to be solved. The biggest twist in the episode is that the plane also exists in the ocean, which is bizarre since we saw it landed during the series' pilot. This is a new mystery for Michaela, Ben, Saanvi, and others and it also raises a question as to whether or not they're really alive.
This huge cliffhanger in Manifest season 2 finale will be explored if ever the series will be renewed for a third installment. What's odd here is that the plane already exploded, so it's a mystery why the tail fin was found in the ocean. The plane landed on the ground, but now that one of its parts has been found, there's also a possibility it crashed in the middle of the sea.
Speaking to TVLine, showrunner Jeff Rake discussed the new mysteries and big reveals in Manifest season 2 finale. When asked how the plane has physically been in two places at once, he answered that it's a "metaphysical impossibility" if ever the tail fin is identical to the one in Flight 828. The plane landed in New York and then exploded on the tarmac, so how is it possible the tail fin was in the ocean?
Rake explained this new mystery could lead to paranoia about Flight 828 and its passengers, and also re-trigger global scrutiny when the world finds out about this. This will also lead people -- not only the Xers but also the rational ones -- to conclude, in light of this evidence. It's interesting to see how Michaela, Ben, Saanvi, and other passengers deal with this new mystery.
Meanwhile, when asked about whether or not the passengers are fake, the showrunner answered that would be a "season-long, science-based, science meets mythology investigation." Rake also added that for those who think the episodes are becoming a little science-light or investigation-light, then there are still a lot of "good materials coming down the pike."
Manifest season 2 finale also saw The Major died, and Rake confirmed she's really dead. As to whether or not we're going to meet new characters in the potential third season, the showrunner said viewers will definitely meet new faces. He then teased that there's one particular character that will be an important part of the series moving forward.
