Supergirl season 5 finale is coming next month, but the episode wasn't originally meant to be the ending. The series halted its production due to the COVID-19 outbreak and opted to air an alternative season finale. But even though it's not the original episode, it may still deliver some interesting storyline and there could be changes when it comes to Lex Luthor's story.
Lex Luthor's story in Supergirl season 5 finale might completely be a different one than it was first planned. His story may further progress as the series goes on in the future,s rather than just ending it this season. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Jon Cryer, who plays the character, discussed this matter and the possible changes in Lex's storyline.
Cryer said that they were about to shoot some scenes from the last episode and they're going to use some of that footage in the alternative Supergirl season 5 finale. He then revealed that the writers are rewriting parts of the final episode. The actor teased that Lex's being thwarted may not happen anymore. Hence, there is a possibility the superheroes may not defeat him -- just yet.
It's interesting to see where Lex's story will go moving forward, as the character is different compared to other villains within this world. He's not someone who has a clear goal; his motives are often complicated. His story did not end in the Crisis on Infinite Earths, with his criminal past being erased. Now, he's hailed as the Man of Tomorrow and runs the DEO, as well.
But aside from Lex's potential story changes in Supergirl season 5, the upcoming episode 17, titled "Deus Lex Machina," is also an important episode for him. His past will be explored here and will reveal how he came into power after Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover events. His backstory will come into the light, which is completely different from what was shown before.
There could be a new set of dangers here as Lex is likely preparing himself to bring more chaos. The circumstances and reasons behind his latest rise will be explored since there are still a lot of mysteries here. He is planning to defeat the latest attack of Leviathan, as well as pitting Supergirl and the team against Leviathan. What's more is that Lex also wants to become close to Lena.
