Supergirl season 5 episode 17 is set to arrive later this month on The CW, with the title "Deus Lex Machina." This episode is not only important for Kara/Supergirl, but it also marks the directorial debut of lead actress Melissa Benoist. There are a lot of things to expect in this episode, and viewers should be prepared for some chaos brought by Lex Luthor.

Benoist, who plays Kara/Supergirl, will be directing the Supergirl season 5 episode 17. This is her first time directing an episode for the series, so many were delighted about it. What's even more exciting is that she'll be directing a notable episode, one that may bring consequences in the future. It also looks like this episode wouldn't be a lighthearted one as Lex brings some chaos.

In Supergirl season 5 episode 17, Lex will proceed to his plan to bring Lena closer to him, defeat the latest attack of Leviathan, and pit Supergirl and team against Leviathan. The episode will also reveal how Lex came into power following the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover events. There are still a lot of mysteries here, so the episode may explore how he became different after the Crisis.

The circumstances behind the latest rise to power of Lex will be explored within this episode. He is working closely with Brainiac, and he positioned himself as the best hope of Kara to stop Leviathan and save then National City. But then, this is not enough even though he's now adored by the general public again. In addition, this may not be enough to sate his megalomaniacal ambitions as well.

In another report, TVLine reported that Supergirl halted production as a safety precaution due to COVID-19 concerns. The official statement from Warner Bros. Television Group noted that they decided to shut down production on some of their shows. Although there are no confirmed cases, it stated that the health and safety of the employees, cast, and crew members remain to be their top priority.

Moreover, The Flash halted production as well. Unit manager Brent Crowel said that the Vancouver-based CW drama would cease the production of its current season until further notice. Similarly, Lucifer -- which is also produced by Warner Bros -- also shuts down production as coronavirus precautionary measure. The series is nearing the end of production on the fifth installment.

Supergirl season 5 episode 17 airs on Sunday night, Mar. 29, on The CW.
