Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom confirmed their separation this week, ending widespread speculation about the state of their relationship. The announcement was made through representatives, who emphasized the couple's shared commitment to co-parenting their daughter, Daisy Dove.
"Orlando and Katy have been shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on co-parenting," the couple's statement read. "They will continue to be seen together as a family, as their shared priority is - and always will be - raising their daughter with love, stability, and mutual respect."
The couple began dating in 2016 and became engaged on Valentine's Day in 2019. Their daughter was born in 2020. The confirmation of the split follows weeks of heightened speculation, including Perry's absence from the highly publicized wedding of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez in Venice, where Bloom attended solo.
Bloom, 48, was seen mingling with celebrities including Kim Kardashian and Sydney Sweeney at the lavish ceremony. He was also photographed with model Vittoria Ceretti, reportedly sharing a water taxi with her following the event. Perry, 40, was in Australia for her Lifetimes Tour, a scheduling conflict cited as the reason for her nonappearance.
Bloom added to the speculation by posting a series of cryptic quotes on Instagram, including one from Carl Jung that read: "Loneliness does not come from having no people about one, but from being unable to communicate the things that seem important to oneself."
The "Teenage Dream" singer was seen visibly emotional during recent performances. At a concert in Adelaide, she held her hands in a heart shape and said, "Thank you, Australia, for always being there for me." She had previously cried during an April show in Mexico City while performing her song "Pearl," which references a turbulent relationship.
Despite the split, sources close to the couple have described the separation as amicable. One insider told RadarOnline.com: "Katy and Orlando have split but are amicable." They added that the decision had been "a long time coming," and tensions had been building for months.
Perry was previously married to comedian Russell Brand from 2010 to 2012, an experience she has described as one of the most difficult periods of her life. The current split, according to another source, comes with a sense of relief: "Katy is of course upset but is relieved to not have to go through another divorce."
In a 2023 interview with Trevor Noah, Bloom reflected on the challenges of balancing their careers and family. "I wouldn't change it for anything," he said. "Even when sometimes it feels like, 'How do we do this?' Because we've got these two giant careers and lives... I just keep coming back to her and trying to hold her hand and walk her back to the sand pit and be like, we're just going to build a sandcastle."
