The coronavirus outbreak has affected everything that we do today, from the simpler things like going to the market to keeping people and families apart. Thanks to the new technology, we manage to keep in touch with our loved ones, while following the government's advice to practice social distancing and self-isolating. This is the same thing that the royal family is doing today to carry out their duties and communicate with one another amid the pandemic. So what are the apps they use? Find out here.
Mike Tindall revealed in a 2018 interview that he, his wife Zara Tindall, and her royal cousins have a WhatsApp group chat. "Me, my brother and then a few of Zara's side like her brother Pete and the cousins are on WhatsApp groups," he said, per Hello! Magazine.
Although he didn't want to say that they were cutting edge, it's easier for them to use the said messaging service. He is in about 25,000 groups in total. They usually do it for a get-together, and he just stays on those groups as he finds it rude to leave.
FaceTime
FaceTime is one of the most used messaging apps today, and this is what Meghan Markle often uses. The Duchess of Sussex stays in touch with her friends and family using this service.
One of her best friends, Janina Gavanka, told Entertainment Tonight that their friendship started to live on FaceTime when she moved to London to be with Prince Harry. As they had been friends for 16 years, it was the first time that they were apart, so they chose to stay in touch despite the distance.
Video Conference
The royal family is often using video conferencing today to carry out their royal duties and keep in contact with their patronages. But aside from performing their royal roles, they are also using it to communicate with one another.
In a BBC interview with Prince William, he said they are talking to all the royal family members online. It is a useful tool for them to keep in touch and see each other even if it's only on the computer screen. Although he admitted that the younger generation is more tech-savvy than them, they are now getting used to it.
Social Media
Of course, social media plays a big role for the royal family to stay connected to the public, Vanity Fair noted. They usually use their respective social media pages to make an announcement, update their followers, and spread positivity, like Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
As they are all working from home, they are using virtual tools to attend meetings and continue their works amid the coronavirus outbreak. The royal family is taking advantage of the new technology to serve the people and fight the pandemic.
