It looks like Prince William and Kate Middleton are getting the hangs of using technology to continue their royal duties from their home in Anmer Hall amid the coronavirus outbreak. The royal couple, reportedly, favors using video calls toady to carry out their royal roles than in-person meetings.
The Cambridges traditionally meet the public, its patrons, and diplomats in person. Still, with the government's stay-at-home order, they are forced to use modern technology to continue their work. Although the Duke of Cambridge once said that the younger generation is more tech-savvy than them, they now more favor using video calls than having in-person meetings due to its many benefits.
According to BBC's Tina Daheley, Prince William and Kate Middleton noticed that they could have more "in-depth one-on-one conversations" through video calls. They also realized that they could maximize their time using it, enabling them to talk to more people with no time limit.
"You don't have to faff about with all the other stuff and only having a set amount of time and having to go somewhere and meet loads of people," Daheley told the Coronavirus Newscast, after she interviewed the pair, per Hello! Magazine. "They like that you can have an in-depth one-on-one conversation with people."
She also commended her experience of having a "normal" talk with Prince William and Kate Middleton. She said that people sometimes could forget that they're chatting to the members of the royal family, as they're very approachable, they could even perform if the public likes. But if there's one thing that always strikes Daheley when talking to these two is "how normal they are," making her feel like she's just conversing with ordinary people.
True to Daheley's claim, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge used the modern technology when they launched their new initiative, Every Mind Matters, a ten-step program that will help people with their mental health while staying at home, Standard noted. They also used video calls to show their support to patronages during the coronavirus outbrea and to get in touch with other members of the royal family and Kate's parents and siblings.
However, there are also some cons in using video calls, especially if they have a soon-to-be two-year-old boy. Prince William and Kate Middleton revealed that Prince Louis often interrupts their talks whenever he sees the red button. For some reason, when the kid sees it, he always wants to press the button.
