Princess Anne is known for her no-nonsense attitude, but she is also famous for recycling her clothes and breaking from the royal norm. One of the most famous royal traditions that she broke paid off when she decided not to give royal titles to her kids, Zara Tindall and Peter Phillips.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, the 69-year-old royal admitted she broke from a royal family tradition for the sake of her children. In a talk on Access Hollywood, via Express, it revealed that although the Princess Royal is known for her incredible loyalty to the monarch, she bravely disregarded a tradition that had been going on for decades.
She didn't give neither Zara Tindall nor Peter Phillips royal titles at birth. She proved she had no regrets about their "on-paper standing in the family," believeing they were better off without titles.
"I think it was probably easier for them, and I think most people would argue that there are downsides to having titles," she told Vanity Fair. "So, I think that was probably the right thing to do."
Princess Anne's nephew, Prince Harry, and his wife, Meghan Markle, followed in her footsteps. The Sussexes didn't bestow their son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, any royal titles.
The only daughter of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip also talked about herself. She revealed one personal trait she shared with her brother, Prince Charles, was their love of "recycling outfits and clothing."
ITV News royal editor Chris Ship and producer Lizzie Robinson revealed on their Royal Rota podcast that Princess Anne has some outfits from the 1980s that she still wears until today. Allegedly, she and the Prince of Wales were taught to do that at an early age.
So, even before Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle made sartorial statements for re-wearing some of their outfits, Princess Anne first did that, making her the queen of sustainable fashion. Some of her favorite clothes that she re-wears are her fur-lined coat and cream and navy coat.
According to Town & Country¸ Princess Anne was first seen wearing her fur-lined coat when she was only 20, at the wedding of Chris Collins and Susanne Lumb in 1976. She then wore it again in 1983 and became a favorite Christmas coat after she donned it on Christmas Day in 2003, 2006, 2008, and 2012.
Her cream and navy coat, on the other hand, seemed to be her springtime favorite, wearing it from the Royal Ascot in 1980 to the Derby at Epsom Downs in 1985. But that didn't stop there. She once again made use of it in 2015 at two different garden parties at Buckingham Palace and the Commonwealth Day Service in 2018.
