Nine years ago, on April 29, Prince William and Kate Middleton exchanged wedding vows in front of a massive crowd in London. This year, the couple are celebrating their anniversary in isolation with their children due to the coronavirus pandemic.
This celebration in private, however, is not unusual for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Sources told People that Prince William and Kate typically celebrate their wedding anniversary quietly even before the stay-at-home orders have become the norm.
Prince William and Kate are likely going to keep with their routines and continue homeschooling Prince George and Princess Charlotte in Anmer Hall since April 29 is a school day. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are also likely going to make video conference calls for work, so they will get a lot of stuff done before they actually sit back and relax to celebrate their anniversary.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, however, made it a point to share a post of their wedding photo on their Instagram account. They thanked everyone for sending in lovely messages for their anniversary.
Prince William and Kate met while they were in college at the University of St. Andrews nearly two decades ago. They were dating for several years, broke up for a brief period and then got back together again before announcing their engagement in November 2010.
Since getting married, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have had three children -- George, 6, Charlotte, almost 5, and Louis, 2. They have also gained more responsibilities in the royal family, earning the Queen's praise and respect.
A source told Us Weekly that Queen Elizabeth has told Prince William and Kate a number of times that they are doing a wonderful job for the monarch. Apparently, the Queen is proud of how Prince William and Kate have remained focused on their royal duties, especially in the most challenging periods for the royal family.
Their nine years of wedded bliss has been speculated to have had challenges, like any other couple. In early 2019, rumors surfaced that Prince William had an affair with one of Kate's closest friends but the story has never been proven true.
Throughout their life as a couple, Prince William and Kate were also hounded by the media spotlight. At one point, lawyers were involved when the scrutiny of Kate's life became too intrusive but the couple have since learned to skate the press and still enjoy some privacy and normalcy despite being public figures.
