Ever since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their decision to step down as senior royals, all eyes are now on Prince William and Kate Middleton. As they are expected to up their game, especially with the current COVID-19 pandemic, they are said to be "wholly responsible" to look after the British people.
Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine, believed Prince William and Kate Middleton would use their popularity for the benefit of the royal family. Despite the nationwide lockdown, the couple puts out all the stops to continue their work by doing video calls and launching a mental health initiative.
"They feel almost wholly responsible as they are the only influential ones young enough to be out there at the moment apart from Sophie and Edward and The Princess Royal," the royal expert told Fabulous, via The Sun. "They have the highest-profile and want to use it to the benefit of the monarchy, which has to be seen as being a comfort to people at this time."
They, too, look more relaxed since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle left the monarchy. Seward explained that they might be trying to show that they could do things on their own even without the Sussexes' support.
Kate Middleton's effort is said to be the driving force for the couple during this time of crisis. She also seems to lead all their engagements. She appears to be in control of their relationship but lets Prince William do his own thing.
Although the Duchess of Cambridge doesn't look as confident as she is now, it may only be because she doesn't want to overshadow what her husband is doing. Seward added that the Duke of Cambridge is even happy to let his wife do the video calls. Even though they are both competitive, their marriage is never a competition.
However, royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams revealed that a "very considerable responsibility" now rests on the Cambridges at this challenging time. He told Express that the press and social media are following their every move as they raise the challenge to boost the people's morale, while following the government's orders.
He believed that Prince William and Kate Middleton's visit to NHS staff was a huge morale booster, and the photos of Prince George and Princess Charlotte they shared on Mother's Day were "enchanting." As they continue to send good vibes and positive news on Instagram, they are expected to continue to do so in the coming days. But as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle chose to be in Los Angeles amid the COVID-19 pandemic, they are believed to be sidelined.
