Foldable phones are seen as the new norm and consumers have started seeing some of them come out. Samsung came out with the Galaxy Fold but most were drawn back by the stiff price of $1,980. The suggested retail price is not surprising considering the new component is expected to cost a lot. Hence, most are now speculating that its successor, the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2, will cost over $2,000.

However, that does not appear to be the case. The word going around right now is that the Galaxy Fold 2 may cost a bit cheaper. According to Sam Mobile, the unofficial price could be around $1,899 which should be good news for folks aching to get a foldable phone.

However, most know that each time a company brings down the price that there are repercussions. And in the case of the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2, it would be the rear cameras taking a hit. Most see how phones these days are sporting four main cameras. The Samsung Galaxy Fold successor will only have three.

The said three sensors will be a 64 MP main camera, a 16 MP and 12 MP shooter, Slash Gear reported. Considering these are only rumors, the detailed specs of each remain unknown at this time. The same goes for the other components such as processor, RAM count, and storage.

As for the foldable screen, it is likely to make use of the new Ultra-Thin Glass (UTG) that comes with support for the S-Pen. For the basis of comparison, the Samsung Galaxy Fold is powered by a Snapdragon 855 chipset, 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of internal storage. It also comes with a 4,380 mAh battery and the usual USB-C and Bluetooth connectivity options, Digital Trends reported.

From the current specs of the Samsung Galaxy Fold mentioned, a bump in the processor is likely. The RAM count and the storage seem sufficient unless the phone would need more power and storage depending on its capability.

One less camera may not hurt for as long as the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 is still able to take quality photos and videos. Instead of a fourth camera, a trio of better-performing cameras could be best. With a discount roughly worth $100, it will be interesting how demand for it will fare.

Most consumers are cash-strapped right now due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Buying a new phone is likely to take a hit, most opting to pass on spending heavily on a brand new device. The Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 will have its share of buyers but perhaps not as most would expect under normal conditions.
