There will be no "WWE 2K21" coming in 2020 and most are hardly surprised. Most know that "WWE 2K20" is full of issues, ranging from poor graphics to poor gameplay. A year off could be best for the game title, giving developers more time to address these problems and make the game better. But it appears there is an underlying factor to all of this.

Visual Concept recently hired a new franchise executive producer in Patrick Gilmore and the new top brass has yet to settle in. Rather than rush him into finding solutions to the buggy "WWE 2K20" and come up with immediate solutions for implementation on "WWE 2K21," the pass will help him organize things better. He will have to sit down developers to discuss the problems and hopefully come up with better games moving forward.

But wrestling gamers are not entirely left empty-handed. They can still enjoy some wrestling fun through Saber Interactive's "WWE 2K Battlegrounds." Related to the "WWE 2K21," this too was intended to be a filler and buy 2K Sports some time as they work on the next "WWE 2K" game. It may need some getting used to but the only choice for now.

As for Gilmore, he may want to read on the thread of complaints on "WWE 2K20." Most of them can be found here, a list of bugs and issues that game developers need to improve on. Some may be reasonable and others not. But then again, that is up to Gilmore and his team to evaluate and make the next "WWE 2K" title a whole lot better as possible.

The current COVID-19 situation is unlikely to make things easier. But then again, Gilmore and game developers can make the most of telecommuting work to get things done. It is a new approach but doable. For now, there is no word on what has already been discussed and what developers plan to address first.

Aside from graphics and bugs, the poor story mode has been criticized as well. Gilmore may need to be creative in this one, a feature that some focus on rather than endlessly competing with other players or the computer.

There is no telling if "WWE 2K21" would have made a difference. But it would have been a game most would be playing right now. Most are holed up at home playing video games or logging on to the web. A "WWE 2K21" game, had it come out, would have kept them busy - assuming the improvements were made and bugs no longer around.
