Kate Middleton is undoubtedly one of the most fashionable members of the Royal Family. When she married Prince William in 2011, the Duchess of Cambridge was quickly called a fashion icon.

But since Kate Middleton is a part of the Royal Family, she needs to wear outfits that are proper for Royal engagements. In an unearthed report, a royal correspondent claimed that Her Majesty decided that the Duchess of Cambridge needed to upgrade her royal wardrobe.

“The Duchess will deploy a couture wardrobe of day dresses with lower hemlines than she has previously favored,” Katie Nicholl said in 2014. “She will be encouraged to wear the tiaras favored by the Queen and Queen Mother and an aide is being lined up to help her with her wardrobe. Meanwhile, Her Majesty has offered the services of her most trusted member of staff, her personal dresser Angela Kelly, to help Kate prepare for her trip… This forms part of a deliberate move to shift the Duchess’ image from High Street to high end, timeless Royal elegance — without losing her freshness and informality.”

The royal makeover may not be that extreme for Kate Middleton as it appears that she and Queen Elizabeth may have the same taste in fashion. In fact, the Duchess of Cambridge has been spotted wearing some precious stones from Her Majesty’s jewelry collection in certain events and outings.

“Kate gets the pick of the jewels for big occasions and the Queen is happy to open up her jewelry box,” a source said. “Kate has been clever to befriend Angela Kelly, who is in charge of the Queen’s personal jewelry collection and oversees the loans. Generally, Kate is allowed to borrow whatever she fancies.”

Rumor has it that Queen Elizabeth assured Prince William that Princess Diana’s accessories will only be worn by his wife. This sparked speculations that Meghan Markle is banned from borrowing them.

Although there is no solid proof to confirm that Meghan Markle is banned from borrowing some items from Queen Elizabeth’s jewelry collection, many believe that the Duchess of Sussex doesn’t seem to have the same privilege as Kate Middleton. However, there is still the possibility that Meghan may have not worn pieces from Her Majesty' collection simply because the designs don’t suit her taste.

Meanwhile, despite the royal makeover, Kate Middleton still manages to put her style and personality into her wardrobe. What made her very popular to the public is when many noticed that she doesn’t only wear affordable clothes, but she repeats them just like the rest of us.
