Coronavirus has taken hundreds of thousands of lives all around the world, and the cure for the pandemic has yet to be discovered. That being said, world leaders have implemented certain rules such as social distancing and nationwide lockdown in an attempt to stop the spread of COVID-19.

Just like everyone else in the UK and most parts of the world, the Royal family is also practicing the emergency protocol. Prince William and Kate Middleton are strictly following the rules. They are currently staying at Anmer Hall in Norfolk during the lockdown with their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

But since Queen Elizabeth remained in isolation as those who are over 70 are considered to be most at risk of catching severe COVID-19, Prince William and Kate Middleton have ramped up their royal duties.

“It’s terribly sad but I can’t see how the Queen can resume her usual job,” royal biographer Andrew Morton said. “The Covid-19 virus isn’t going away soon and will be with us for months, if not years. It would be far too risky for the Queen to start meeting people on a regular basis. She has always loved getting out and meeting people but she can’t take the risk. How can she carry out investitures, meet ambassadors, do walkabouts, and visit places without meeting people at close range? If she gets the bug, it could be fatal and would put Prince Philip at risk.”

Prince Charles is the heir apparent to the throne, so he is supposed to take over while Queen Elizabeth is in isolation. However, the Prince of Wales’s age also fell to the category of being at high risk of catching the deadly virus. The situation leaves Prince William, who is the second in line to the British throne, to face the heavy burden but he and Kate Middleton are believed to be ready for the obligation.

“I think they are sending the message that they can do it on their own without the support of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex,” royal expert Ingrid Seward said. “I get the impression that the Cambridges are far more relaxed and comfortable since Meghan and Harry left… I think the Cambridges want to let people see their children in controlled circumstances, that is, that they have control over. They feel almost wholly responsible as they are the only influential ones young enough to be out there at the moment apart from Sophie and Edward and the Princess Royal.”
