Fox officially renewed Prodigal Son season 2 and many were delighted about it. The network previously confirmed the Tom Payne-led series is coming back for a new batch of episodes, though its arrival remains uncertain at the moment.

The show has performed well in the 18-49 demographic and managed to build up loyal fans over time. These are probably some of the reasons why Fox decided to renew Prodigal Son season 2. And considering the events that happened in season 1 finale, it's clear that there are more stories to tell.

Based on the teaser of Prodigal Son season 2, Ainsley Whitly will be the center of everything. She was responsible for the death of Nicholas Endicott. Moving forward, the character becomes completely different and turns somewhat terrifying.

Perhaps, Ainsley is becoming more of her father, Dr. Martin Whitly. She looks like normal and wasn't affected by the things her father has been doing since she's just five back then. However, there's a forming memory at that age that impacted her for the rest of her life.

The clip hints that her memories from the past were haunting her, wherein she seemingly sees her younger self. Martin was also shown in the teaser, possibly tormenting Ainsley's mind. Prodigal Son season 2 may explore this particular storyline and may uncover buried and dark secrets along the way.

What happened to Ainsley may also affect Malcolm Bright in a huge way. Although she killed someone evil, her action still comes with consequences. Bright might be put in a difficult position, especially since Ainsley is his younger sister.

Meanwhile, Prodigal Son season 2 has no official premiere date. Just like more of the regular scripted programming on Fox, the network has no plan to release it in the fall. According to CarterMatt, the new installment will likely arrive in January.

However, there are different factors that should be considered. For instance, the series' filming location is in New York City, one of the places most affected by the coronavirus. The cast and crew may not be able to start filming anytime soon, as everything depends on the current situation.

Prodigal Son stars Tom Payne as Malcolm Bright, Halston Sage as Ainsley Whitly, Michael Sheen as Dr. Martin Whitly, Bellamy Young as Jessica Whitly, Lou Diamond Phillips as Gil Arroyo, Aurora Perrineau as Det. Dani Powell, Frank Harts as Det. JT Tarmel, and Keiko Agena as Dr. Edrisa Tanaka.
