Prodigal Son may go on a short hiatus, so viewers may not be seeing the Tom Payne-led series for a while on Fox. The previous episode aired on Monday night, Mar. 30, will likely be the last for now. But, fans shouldn't be worried about it as the series may come back later in April.

There is no new episode of Prodigal Son airing next week on Fox, as well as the following week. The freshman series hasn't reached the finale yet, so viewers may need to wait for a while to see how things wrap up to Payne's Malcolm Bright.

According to The Futon Critic, Prodigal Son may return on Monday, Apr. 20. But, CarterMatt noted that the schedule could be later than that, depending on Fox's decision. There are still two more episodes set to air before the season officially concludes.

Just like other TV productions, filming of the first season was completed early because of the health crisis happening around the world at the moment. Most shows were forced to shut down production and air atypical finales due to the situation.

Yet, the situation of Prodigal Son is quite unusual. In a recent Twitter post, series star Lou Diamond Phillips revealed they were able to film their planned season finale. This is mostly because some episodes were shot out of order, hence the series will deliver a proper ending this season.

However, some scenes in between might be missing since episodes weren't shot in order. But beyond the finale, there is also a question about the series' future: whether it will be renewed or canceled. Right now, the renewal status of the second installment hasn't yet announced.

But, it looks like Prodigal Son is coming back for more since it continues delivering good ratings to the networks. In addition, the series delivers interesting storylines each week. The finale may also bring unexpected twists and turns, making viewers wanting for more.

Prodigal Son follows Malcolm Bright and his father, Martin Whitly, is an infamous serial killer known as "The Surgeon." When he was a child, Malcolm was the one who enabled the police to arrest his father and hasn't seen him in 10 years after joining Quantico.

Malcolm becomes a profiler and forced to confront his father after a serial killer copies his method of killing. He found himself having constant contact with his father to use his insights to help the police solve crimes, while also battling his own demons.
