Animal Kingdom season 5 is officially coming on TNT, though its official release date remains uncertain until now. But when the new installment arrives, prepare for more stories for the Cody Boys -- especially now that Smurf is gone to lead their operations.

A new era is coming for the Codys once Animal Kingdom season 5 premieres. The forefront of everything is probably seeing the family doing whatever they can to make sure their operation would stay afloat even after Smurf's death.

The Cody Boys -- J, Craig, Deran, and Pope -- must secure Smurf's former contacts. But although they found a role for themselves, everything won't be easy for them. J considers himself as the master strategist, but are Craig, Deran, and Pope really fine with him leading the operation?

Smurf facilitates their plans, but now that she's not around, the Codys will start from the scratch and must build a new empire in Animal Kingdom season 5. And even though they're familiar with it, there could be a conflict between the Cody Boys at some point.

The upcoming installment will also explore Angela's role in the lives of the Codys. She has experiences in the realm, so the family may consider trusting her. The character's story is also worth exploring since the previous season didn't give much clarity when it comes to her.

Animal Kingdom season 5 may also see more of Pamela Johnson, the woman who Smurf left most of her money to. Both of them know each other from the past, with Pamela often appearing in Smurf's flashback. She's also the first person to be there for her after she got away from Jed.

No matter where the story leads the Codys, the center of everything would be family and survival. They need to look for more people and convince them to join their side. But then, doing that could send them into a whirlwind of confusion and panic.

The official release date of Animal Kingdom season 5 is still unknown at the moment. Usually, the series arrives on TNBT after Memorial Day, but that won't happen this time around because of the current global health crisis.

Half of the episodes were already finished before the show halted its production, yet there are still uncertainties. In fact, a fan asked on Twitter about the release date of the new season and TNT replied they didn't have a specific answer as to when it will come back.
