The issue between Chelsea FC and Kepa Arrizabalaga is well-documented but the issues were seemed to be put to rest. But then again, anything can happen by the next transfer window and Frank Lampard is not taking any chances. Most know how Kepa was placed in the doghouse for a time, mainly due to his poor showing. But things have changed since then with the 25-year-old slowly getting his old groove back.

Aside from that, Kepa seems to have connected with Lampard since then. He says he understands where the 41-year-old coach is coming from and that all of it was for his and the team's benefit. But being the world's most expensive goalkeeper, anything can still happen. Things may look fine for now but the atmosphere may change by the summer. There is no telling if Kepa or his group would ask for a release, moving to a team where the Spaniard would be utilized better. It is a possibility and the Blues need to make sure they do not end up on empty.

Reports are flying in that Chelsea is looking at two possible goalkeepers in the event Kepa exits. They are Roman Burki of Borussia Dortmund and Andre Onana of Ajax FC. Burki has one year left in his current deal with Borussia and could be available for $18.5 million if Chelsea is interested. Onana, on the other hand, could also be available at the right price, Algemeen Dagblad reported.

It remains to be seen if this new development will get a reaction from Kepa who seemed back on track. He reiterated that he understands the temporary benching and is now ready to move on. He has taken all of that professionally and is now looking to move on. However, another twist could be looming.

Most know how teams were hit hard by the COVID-19 in terms of finances. Clubs are now trying to curb down on spending and likely trying to save up with their current players. Some teams have resorted to wage cuts, something that a select number of players were not too happy about. Though nothing has been mentioned yet over at Chelsea, that could be a possibility if things don't pick up in the coming months.

Hence, the Blues may be open to dealing Kepa and replacing him with another goalie who costs less. But another question there is which team would shell out big money to take in the Spanish football player? Kepa was acquired for a record amount of $85 million in 2018 from Athletic Bilbao.
