John Legend and Kanye West are friends for years but it seems that they had a falling out lately. The "All of Me" singer revealed that he and Kanye are no longer as close friends as they used to be.

In an interview with the Sunday Times, Legend confessed that he and West are in "different places" in their lives now. The EGOT awardee was asked about the status of his friendship with Kanye and if there is a rift between them because of their opposing opinions about Donald Trump.

Legend and his wife, Chrissy Teigen, have been very vocal about how they detest Trump and his policies. In many instances, the couple shared their views about the administration on social media. Trump responded to their tweets and blasted the couple.

West, on the other hand, has been a supporter of the president. The Jesus Is King rapper has also vowed that he would vote for Trump again in 2020 elections.

However, Legend doesn't believe that he and Kanye became strange to each other because of Trump. The crooner said it just so happened that they are now doing their own thing and have no longer formal business relationship as artists.

Legend added they are also in different places at the moment when it comes to music. Kanye is focused on doing gospel music and designing at the moment.

He also clarified that they never talked about politics before. The Voice judge said their interaction was almost always about creativity and music.

Legend and West were close for years. John even performed at West and Kim Kardashian's wedding in 2014. Many believe that the falling out could have started in April 2018 after the "Famous" rapper shared on social media Legend's private message to him after his pro-Trump rant and calling the president "my brother."

In his message, Legend mentioned that he hopes Kanye would reconsider his position about supporting Trump as he is an influential artist and his fans respect his opinion. The "Ordinary People" singer added many of Kanye's fans feel betrayed because of the harm that Trump's policies cause, especially to people of color.

Kanye explained why he posted Legend's private message. He said it showed that some of his friends disagree with his opinion but he wouldn't be persuaded by anyone. The Yeezy designer added he replied to Legend's message and told him that he appreciated his concern but bringing up his fans and his legacy was a tactic used to manipulate his free thought.

Meanwhile, Legend showed support to protesters over George Lloyd's tragic death last week. But he also asked those in the streets to protect themselves against the coronavirus. He asked them to wear masks and keep the distance as much as possible.
