President Donald Trump is now receiving mockeries after Secret Service agents, reportedly, rushed him to a White House bunker after hundreds of protesters came outside of his office. The demonstrators threw rocks and tugged at police barricades, so the delegates decided to take the president underground to make sure of his safety. So, what is inside this bunker and how confident they are that it is safe?
Donald Trump spent an hour in the bunker, which is often used in case of emergencies, like terrorist attacks, a Republican close to the White House said on condition of anonymity. His wife, First Lady Melania Trump and son, Barron, reportedly, joined the POTUS there, CNN noted.
According to Daily Mail, the subterranean facility is underneath the East Wing of the White House complex. It is officially known as the President Emergency Operations Center, built in the early 1940s by the then-President Franklin Delano Roosevelt when the country got involved in World War II.
His successor, Harry Truman, expanded the PEOC when the White House got renovated. This facility was rarely used, and the last time it was utilized was when George W. Bush's senior officials feared there would be a hijacked plane headed to White House amid the September 11 attacks in 2001.
Photographs of then-Vice President Dick Cheney, First Lady Laura Bush, and other aides consulting each other in a room were revealed at the time. Hence, it is believed that it is the same room where Donald Trump and his family hid on the height of the protest.
Although George W. Bush was not in the White House when his officials went to the bunker, they learned that the place was too small to let the president and his aides work properly during an emergency. So, they began a project to build a larger one, which, reportedly, five stories high under the North Lawn.
Now, the so-called bunker serves as a command center and living quarters for the president and his senior aides. It has food that will last for months, while its air supply is self-contained. If ever the president needs to flee the White House, he can go through the two tunnels. One of the tubes will lead Donald Trump to Treasury Building and an unmarked entrance on H Street, while the other one will head to the South Lawn, where he can board Marine One if needs be.
Meanwhile, Celebrity Insider that Donald Trump's move to hide in the bunker is mocked by the many. Some compared his action to what Hitler did when things did not work out his way. The White House's blackout was also questioned, and one Twitter user said that it seemed like nobody was home, there was no president, and America became a failed country.
