Just like other K-pop groups, BTS also has a vocal line, rap line, and dance line. V is part of the vocal line with Jin, Jimin, and Jungkook, but his hard work and perseverance earned him a spot as a lead dancer.
ARMYs now know V for his amazing vocals and impressive dance skills, but it wasn’t always that way. In fact, being an idol wasn’t a part of his plan even though he always had a passion for music.
V was only accompanying a friend for an audition in 2011, but he was encouraged by an executive to try out as well and ended up being the only one who made it to the next round. Soon after, V became a trainee of Big Hit Entertainment.
In 2013, BTS debuted and V was mostly known for his soulful voice. Although his dancing was already good at the time, his skills were not as noticeable as the group’s dance line, also know as the 3J, J-Hope, Jimin, and Jungkook. But V worked tirelessly to sharpen his dance skills.
In 2017, BTS’s popularity soared and so did their choreography. But despite the difficulty of their dance steps, V owned each of their performances. In 2018, V’s dancing became more polished and precise and he was made an official lead dancer of BTS’s dance line during their Love Yourself: Tear promotions.
It’s true when they say that you can achieve whatever you want if you set your mind to it. V did just that with his dance skills and became a part of the BTS dance line.
While V is now enjoying the result of his hard work, things were not as great for him during BTS’s pre-debut days. Before BTS officially debuted, RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, and Jungkook often go online to film their vlogs. But since V was the group’s “secret weapon,” he had to be hidden from the camera.
V wanted so much to be a part of the pre-debut vlogs, but he had no choice but to do it alone (despite knowing that he won’t be able to release it) while watching the rest of the members excitedly updating the fans about their progress online.
As BTS’ “secret weapon,” V missed a lot of special events like Jungkook’s middle school graduation. But when the time has finally come that he was introduced to the world, V was overjoyed to finally be a part of what RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, and Jungkook were doing.
