Despite his decision to step down as a senior royal, Prince Harry, reportedly, wants to keep his position as the Royal Marines' ceremonial head. As the Duke of Sussex is still under a review for a period of a year, will it be possible for him to return to his military positions after it?
A former Invictus Games soldier revealed on a condition of anonymity that Prince Harry misses his role with the Marines. Although the anonymous source only spoke to him about the multi-sport event, Meghan Markle's husband suddenly talked about his life and his desire to return to the appointment.
According to Mirror Online, the sixth in line to the throne might have discussed the subject shortly after the nationwide lockdown started. Another source revealed that he was "a breath of fresh air" for the Marines.
The soldiers could relate to him. They also commended him for being a famous personality who showed a "keen interest" in his job. So, when he left his military roles in February, it was a shock for everyone.
Anyhow, the Ministry of Defence said he is still the Captain General of the Marines "technically." Queen Elizabeth II has yet to announce who will replace her grandson, but there are rumors Princess Anne may take the Marines role.
When he and his wife, Meghan Markle, dropped their bombshell announcement in January, they officially left the monarchy on March 31 with their son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. A deal was made between him and Queen Elizabeth, senior royals, like Prince Charles and Prince William, and other senior aides at Sandringham, Express noted.
Prince Harry managed to retain his three honorary military roles during the 12-month transition period that started in April. In a statement the Sussexes released in their now defunct Sussex Royal website in February, they revealed that he would retain his rank as a "Major and honorary ranks of Lieutenant Commander and Squadron Leader."
As he is also the founder of the Invictus Games, he can continue to support the military community around the world through "the Invictus Games Foundation and The Endeavour Fund." Prince Harry took the role of the Captain General of the Royal Marines in 2017 after Prince Philip officially resigned. The Duke of Edinburgh had been in the ceremonial role for 64 years.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are now living in Los Angeles with their son, Archie. The couple moved from Canada to California before the borders shutdown in the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
