Showtime officially renewed Shameless season 11 and this will be the final installment of the series. However, viewers may need to wait for a while now, as the show won't likely be back on the small screen anytime soon. Production was halted because of the global health crisis.

Shameless season 11 is slated to come out this summer. This has been announced earlier this year before season 10 concluded. But then, some things changed due to the coronavirus pandemic. We won't be seeing the final installment in the near future and its arrival will be delayed.

The series was a midseason finale until season 7 but was moved to the fall schedule. Originally, the finale was expected to be released in November 2020 running with 12 episodes, and then it will return with its second part in January 2021. However, this pattern has been changed now.

Filming on all shows has been shut down because of the real-life health crisis. One of the major challenges here is that many of these programs were forced to go in a different direction. That means most of them wouldn't follow their usual release date, including the William H. Macy-led series.

As per CarterMatt, production for Shameless season 11 may happen in late summer or in the fall. But then, everything still depends on the current situation -- they could go back to work when things get back to normal. For now, the top priority is the health and safety of the cast and crew.

Some cast members' schedules may also be affected because of the changes, including Emily Kenney, who plays Debbie Gallagher. The actress also stars on The Conners. Her filming schedules were arranged to accommodate both series, but there could be a conflict now.

As for what we can expect, Shameless season 11 continues following the Gallaghers. The previous installment saw Ian and Mickey's wedding. This is a happy celebration, but one person wasn't happy about it: Terry, Mickey's father.

Terry burned the venue to stop the dewing, but his plan failed. Then, he tried to interrupt Ian and Mickey's honeymoon through drive-by shooting but failed again. Entering the series finale, Terry will have a huge role in the lives of the two.

All core cast members are set to return in Shameless season 11, which include William H. Macy, Emma Kenney, Jeremy Allen White, Ethan Cutkosky, Shanola Hampton, Steve Howey, Cameron Monaghan, Noel Fisher, Christian Isaiah, and Kate Miner. There's no confirmation whether or not Emmy Rossum's Fiona is coming back.
