Working from home might seem like a dream -- no annoying co-workers, no commute, and think of all the chores you'll be able to sneak in! But the novelty will soon wear off, and suddenly, you find yourself bored and lonely.

Need some help to keep your sanity? Here are some tips:

1. Set Up a Stable Work Space

One of the things that attract people to the idea of working from home is the fact that you can move freely as you see fit. Moving around gives off a sense of variety to your work environment and keeps boredom at bay. But do not forget that part(s) is now your office, so you should start treating it like so.

In setting up your home office, it will, of course, depend on your needs and personal preferences. Do not worry if your office isn't how as you would want it at first -- keep it in a work-in-progress status and improve it over time.

2. Maintain a Schedule

Failing to make a schedule will result in unfinished tasks. Your goal is not to mix work with house chores; otherwise, you'll end up with an unfinished pile of mess.

Map out a schedule that works for you, one that will allow you to perform tasks one at a time. A well thought out schedule gets rid of the guessing game of what to do next, helping you achieve the work-life balance you've always dreamed about.

3. Set Clear Boundaries

People assume that a work-from-home schedule means you're always welcome for anything and everything. Often times, your family and friends think that you're available, and this is where you need to intervene.

If you want to get work done, learn to say no. You can't allow yourself to say yes to errands, socializing, and other things that turn up any second. Although yes, it's possible to accommodate extras, you have to sneak them into your schedule beforehand. Otherwise, you'll never achieve your pre-planned tasks. It's okay to say no, but do so pleasantly, in a way that your family and friends will understand.

Working from home is not for everyone, and this situation may all be temporary for some of us, but for now, it is our reality. Make use of these tips and design an approach that works for you and everybody else in the house, one that allows you to thrive in the comforts of your home.
