After getting into a racism controversy, Lifetime, reportedly, canceled Abby Lee Miller's new show on the network. The network will no longer develop the controversial host's new show, Abby's Virtual Dance Off. Also, if there will be Dance Moms Season 9, she will be no longer part of it.
Abby's Virtual Dance Off was supposed to be a spinoff series of Dance Moms. It was scheduled to be out later this summer, but it would never go to fruition due to the accusations of racism against Abby Lee Miller.
According to Entertainment Weekly, if Lifetime will also renew Dance Moms for a ninth season, the 53-year-old star will never be its host. Everything started when she posted a now-deleted black photo on Instagram in support of #BlackOutTuesday and Black Lives Matter movement.
However, Adriana Smith, whose daughter Kamryn joined Dance Moms Season 8, made a comment about the dance instructress' move on her own Instagram. She wrote that it seemed to be the perfect time for her to reveal her experience with the famed choreographer.
In a series of posts from her Notes app, she disclosed that Abby Lee Miller made several racist remarks toward her daughter. One of her statements that got stuck in her mind was when she said that Kamryn grew up in the hood with only a box of eight crayons, while she grew up in the Country Club with a box of 64 crayons, Teen Vogue noted.
The reality television personality seemed to imply that she was better, higher rank, and superior to Kamryn. Hence, Smith believed Abby Lee Miller just proved that she never showed care to the kid or where she came from. The mother also added that her daughter heard Miller said that the child was only added to Dance Moms Season 8 to have a "sprinkle of color."
From there, Smith decided to remove Kamryn from the show. She said she would never allow the "racist" Abby Lee Miller to have any part in her daughter's life.
The Abby Lee Dance Company founder, alternatively, released a statement on Twitter, apologizing to the Smith family. She said she realized racism did not only come from hate but also ignorance.
She also admitted that it was her fault, acknowledging what she did was harmful. As she could never change the past or remove the harm she did, she promised to educate herself, learn, grow, and do better. Although she knew that words were not enough, she hoped to earn their forgiveness one day.
In response, Smith made a post on her account, saying that she did not accept Abby Lee Miller's apology because it "was not sincere." She and Kamryn have yet to hear anything from her, adding that she even did not bother to tag them in her post directly.
