Alexander Armstrong once worked together with Queen Elizabeth II when he hosted a very special version of his quiz show, Pointless, in 2019. Along with the members of Sandringham's Women Institute, they had the chance to play a live game hosted by the 50-year-old TV presenter himself.
Alexander Armstrong revealed that Queen Elizabeth and her team went home victorious at the time. They won the best-of-five match, which ended with three-one wins. They also bagged the coveted Pointless trophy.
According to Hello! Magazine, the British actor was the usual guest speaker at Her Majesty's annual visit to Sandringham WI. He revealed that Her Royal Highness is an avid fan of his BBC show. He even described her as their "most distinguished viewer."
Just like a true leader, she helped her team win the game. She gave them some of the right answers and showed the "deft, silky Pointless skills."
After the meeting, Alexander Armstrong recalled that the hall was divided into two teams. One was led by Queen Elizabeth herself, and the second one was headed by Yvonne Browne, vice-president of the Sandringham WI.
He was 100% sure that the Queen and her team were very pleased with themselves that night and went home "covered in glory." Whenever they would look back over their match, he was sure they would feel proud of themselves and what they achieved.
In a talk on The Jonathan Ross Show, Alexander Armstrong admitted that the meeting seemed to be a "weird day," Mirror Online noted. At the time, he went up to the Norfolk countryside, "a village hall right in the middle of nowhere."
There were 34 women in the church hall, led by Queen Elizabeth. When he had the chance to talk to the leader of the Commonwealth, he described her as a "lovely Queen."
He gave them his own trophy, which he had from the 1000th show they did, as their prize, as it only gathered dust in his possession. After they played higher or a lower and gave them their score, Queen Elizabeth stormed it and won hands down.
Alexander Armstrong promised that he never let Queen Elizabeth win. She was just terrific about it.
Apart from giving Sandringham WI with a Pointless trophy, he also gave them a talk about his journey onto television and sang for the group with piano accompaniment. It was a dream come true for him, having the chance to have tea with Queen Elizabeth. He even called it his "most lovely experience."
