Prince Harry wanted out of the royal family even before he married Meghan Markle. The Duke of Sussex was apparently "deeply unhappy" and had been talking to his then-future wife about giving up his royal life, according to an upcoming biography, Finding Freedom.

According to sources, the royal exit has been in the works even before Prince Harry married Meghan in May 2018. The source went on to say that the royal couple talked extensively about going in a different direction from his destiny, implying that their decision to quit their royal life was not a snap decision.

However, Finding Freedom co-author Omid Scobie said that Prince Harry and Meghan's exit from the royal family had interesting twists and turns that even the Sussexes did not expect. Scobie said that the couple has been steadfast about their beliefs and agreed to the book's release to "tell the definitive version of their lives together" amid a flurry of speculations and rumors, especially from the British tabloid press.

Buckingham Palace sources, however, said that the book might be a soap opera with a predictable narrative. According to insiders, the royals are getting on with their lives after the "drama and everything that comes with it has left" when Prince Harry and Meghan moved to California in March.

Prince Harry and Meghan officially quit their royal duties on March 31 to start their own life in Los Angeles and earn a private income. Their agreement with Queen Elizabeth will be reviewed after a year.

Apparently, Finding Freedom is not in the conversation within the family, who has been used to stories written about them, whether it's authorized or unauthorized. The source said that the royal family is so used to such controversies, having had a lot of "bombs" dropped on their sides.

A spokesman for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, however, clarified that the book has not been authorized, endorsed or officially released with the royal couple's backing. Although Prince Harry and Meghan spoke to the writers and people close to them were also given access, there have been no efforts from the Sussexes to organize the interviews for the authors, per The Sun.

Finding Freedom has been compared to the Princess Diana tell-all book released in the 1990s from author Andrew Morton. It was initially thought to be an unauthorized book, however, it turned out much later that Princess Diana had a personal hand in the book's narrative.
