Prince George is the third in the line of succession to the British throne. He may only be six years old as of this writing, but the son of Prince William and Kate Middleton will be the King of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth realms one day.
But despite being directly in line for the throne, Prince George is unlikely to receive one particular royal title in the future like his great grandfather Prince Philip, grandfather Prince Charles, father Prince William, uncle Prince Harry and more.
According to a new report, Prince George may never be granted the royal dukedom. Queen Elizabeth often awarded the Royal family members a new royal title upon their wedding days. While it is still hard to confirm what title would Her Majesty give Prince George when he gets married, the royal dukedom is possibly not the best choice due to its links to a turbulent period in history for the Royal clan.
Prince Philip is the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Charles is popularly known as the Prince of Wales but he is also the Duke of Cornwall, Prince William is the Duke of Cambridge, Prince Harry is the Duke of Sussex, Prince Andrew is the Duke of York, Prince Edward is said to have chosen a lower rank, which is a royal earldom.
There are still more royals who hold the royal dukedoms, but several titles are currently extinct like the Duke of Windsor. This title may never be given again due to the controversy linked to it.
Ex-King Edward VIII was the Duke of Windsor. He abdicated in 1936 after receiving backlash for falling in love with twice-divorced Wallis Simpson. Many believed at the time that the American socialite was not suitable to be the wife of a king, which led to his downfall.
“His selfishness has become his epitaph," royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams said.
Meanwhile, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down as senior royals to live a more peaceful life. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex wished to raise their son Archie as a private citizen, but his royal blood is going to make it hard for the royal couple.
According to royal experts, Archie is still destined to be a prince despite Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal exit. The one-year-old will always be royal even though his parents wish to distance him from the royal bubble.
