Prince William and Kate Middleton are two of the most popular and well-loved members of the Royal family. But despite this fact, things are not always rainbows and butterflies for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

In fact, Prince William and Kate Middleton’s popularity and extreme interest from the public are sometimes a little too much for them to handle. According to a royal expert, the couple struggled with “intense pressure” to meet the expectations of the people. Victoria Arbiter even went on to say that this matter led to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to break up.

"The engagement whispers were starting, there was intense pressure on William and Kate,” she shared on Channel 5 documentary William & Kate: Too Good to Be True. "Behind the public fairytale, there were private issues in the relationship. Just months later, the couple shocked the world when they publicly separated in early 2007."

A royal biographer previously claimed that one of the reasons for Prince William and Kate Middleton’s split was the prince’s partying ways. Jessica Jayne wrote in her 2012 book “The Duchess of Cambridge: How Kate Middleton Became A Future Queen” that Kate quit her job three years before their engagement so she could ponder on her relationship with the older son of Prince Charles and Princess Diana. She then added that Kate was "humiliated" when the future king was snapped with two girls and the photo was published in tabloids.

But according to one of Kate Middleton’s friends, that wasn’t the case at all. In an old Daily Mail interview unearthed by Express, the friend said that Kate was ready to be proposed to by Prince William in 2007, but that didn’t happen. Instead of a Royal proposal, the pair broke up.

A royal source then added that the reason why Prince William didn’t ask Kate Middleton’s hand in marriage is that he "simply wasn’t ready to settle down" with her yet. Also, to become Prince William’s wife, Kate, allegedly, had to accept his playboy ways.

Prince William and Kate Middleton eventually got back together, announced their engagement in 2010, got married in 2011, and are now proud parents of three beautiful children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

Being married for almost a decade, it is safe to say that Prince William and Kate Middleton have settled any problems they had in the past. If the Duke of Cambridge was indeed a playboy in his younger years, he transformed himself into a loving husband and father.
