Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are, reportedly, supporting the campaign asking companies to stop buying advertisements on Facebook until the platform filters hate speech and misinformation. The #StopHateForProfit is calling on a worldwide boycott against Facebook advertising if it will still not moderate its content.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex apparently confirmed, via Harper's Bazaar, that it is backing the campaign and standing in solidary with the groups that launched the movement. In a statement, Meghan and Prince Harry said that they have been "keen to address online hate speech"  in their new foundation, Archewell, while talking to different groups on civil rights and racial justice, such as the NAACP, the Anti-Defamation League and Color of Change.

The #StopHateForProfit was launched by these groups on June 19 in the wake of other protests sparked by the death of George Floyd while in police custody. Enraged protesters also brought back the Black Lives Matter movement from more than three years ago, demanding equality and respect for the minorities.

Facebook has been criticized for taking no action in moderating hate speeches, especially from politicians, including President Donald Trump. Twitter has been adding warning labels to the president's posts for glorifying violence and racism but Facebook has not been moderating the same posts on its platform, according to Business Insider

As a result of the campaign, Facebook's advertising share, reportedly, price fell to 8% Friday prompting Mark Zuckerberg, the Facebook CEO, to finally reverse his company's stance. He claimed that Facebook will now tag posts that break policies, including those from politicians.

According to an insider, Meghan and Prince Harry are also finding ways to work with the tech industry so it can move to "a more humane direction." In their advocacy for mental health, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex apparently talked about this issue with experts at Stanford University when they briefly visited America in February.

NAACP president and CEO Derrick Johnson confirmed in a Twitter post the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's support for the campaign against Facebook advertising and hate speech. Johnson noted on the Meghan and Prince Harry's lead to commit to "to truth, justice, and equality."

Earlier, Meghan also took a stand against the killing of Floyd in a speech to the graduating class of her high school alma matter. Royal experts said that such a political move was not likely to happen if Meghan and Prince Harry were still working royals.
