A recent data mining activity uncovered references to Xbox Edinburgh and Xbox Count on the operating system of Xbox One. So far, the industry knows that Microsoft would soon release its premium next-generation gaming console. Interestingly, a recent discovery may hint that the Redmond-based tech giant may be working on several gaming consoles.

For several months, the gaming industry has seen a number of leaks and rumors hinting that Xbox is working on multiple SKUs for its next wave of gaming consoles. Several reports revealed Xbox Anaconda and Lockhart teasing some juicy details on their respective power and features. The recent report about Xbox Edinburgh and Count may hint that Xbox has more in store for fans.

The latest information was shared on Twitter by a user named bllyhlbrt. He shared several references on various Xbox codenames found on the operating system of the Xbox One. Both Xbox Series X or Anaconda and Lockhart are mentioned in the screenshots. References to codename Dante, which is allegedly the name of the dev kit of Xbox Series X with Lockhart mode are also on the images posted on Twitter.

What makes the latest data mining activity more interesting are the references for Edinburgh and Count in the Xbox One OS' code. Some fans believe that it could be an indication that Microsoft is working on several variants of its next series of gaming console. Others think that these references could be SKUs of the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.

Meanwhile, Windows Central's Jez Corden advised fans not to get too excited with the latest discovery. He noted that the code names might be for the ambitious streaming service of Microsoft called Project XCloud. The Redmond-based company previously revealed its desire to explore the market that Google Stadia is now cultivating.

If Corden's prediction is true, Microsoft has a very unique strategy for its gaming platform through the sale of a device that allows users to gain access to the library using the controller of Xbox One or Xbox Series X. The code names uncovered in the operating system of Xbox One could be anything and at this point is anyone's guess. Microsoft has not yet shared any comment about these code names.

In fact, the company has been mum for a long time even when it comes to leaks and rumors related to Xbox Series S or Lockhart. Considering that this information is not official, it is best to take this with a pinch of salt.
