Microsoft unveiled its upcoming gaming console, the Xbox Series X at The Game Awards 2019. The Redmond-based tech giant also announced last year that the console would be released in the holiday of 2020. A new report now reveals the original release date of the Xbox Series X, which is surprisingly earlier than what most in the industry anticipated.

Xbox Series X Original Release Date

The latest information comes from Thurrot's Brad Sams, a reliable industry insider. While the tipster does not reveal the specific date of the Xbox Series X's release, he mentions that Phil Spencer and the rest of the team were looking on releasing the console in the summer. Sams clarifies that this release date was before the coronavirus hit the world.

It turns out that the Redmond-based tech company wanted to release the console in the late part of Aug 2020. Based on the information, the timing of the release of Xbox Series X would have been a good strategy for Microsoft, as well as, to the industry. It is interesting to note that if this was the original plan of the company, it was brave enough to release its next generation gaming console without "Halo Infinite."

It could also mean that Xbox has several unannounced titles that are nearing completion. Was the Redmond tech company initially planning to launch the Xbox Series X without major exclusives? Is it hiding special offers or features that would entice gamers to prefer it over Sony's PS5?

Xbox Series S Release Details

The industry insider also dropped information on the release details of the heavily rumored Xbox Series S. For the uninitiated, the Xbox Series S or Lockhart is the rumored cheaper version of the premium Xbox Series X. Other game enthusiasts call the second version of Microsoft's gaming console as the rival of Sony's PS5 Digital Edition.

According to the insider, Microsoft is planning to unveil the less powerful version of the Xbox Series X in June. The release of the cheaper Xbox Series S would be after the arrival of the premium gaming console in October or November of this year, notes Sams. Interestingly, Sams' information aligns with earlier leaks about the launch of Xbox Series S.

Microsoft has not yet confirmed the existence of Xbox Series S. It has not yet announced the specific release date of the Xbox Series X. It is important to note that while the latest set of information is interesting, it is not official. It is wiser to take this with a pinch of salt.
