Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are apparently not yet earning an income since they left the royal family. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex decided to leave their royal life in their quest for financial independence in March but they have not earned anything since.
According to royal expert Katie Nicholl, Prince Harry and Meghan have to make money. But while their charity, Archewell, is not officially launched, it's hard to say how the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are managing their finances.
Nicholl said that Prince Harry and Meghan might soon get an upper hand since they have just signed up with the Harry Walker Agency for their speaking engagements. It is alleged that the Sussexes stand to earn $1 million per appearance, where they will speak at corporate and business industry events.
A source, however, told Entertainment Tonight that Prince Harry and Meghan will not be discussing about the royal family in their public speeches. A spokesperson for the couple said that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are committed to talking about social issues like gender equity, racial justice and mental health.
Meanwhile, Meghan claimed that her wedding to Prince Harry in 2018 earned the U.K. over a billion dollars in tourism. In legal documents she filed in court in her lawsuit against a British tabloid, Meghan allegedly said that her royal wedding far outweighed the expenses of the taxpayers.
Prince Harry and Meghan's wedding cost was estimated to be over $35 million but some if it, such as the flowers, the church service and the wedding party, was privately funded. The majority of the expenses shouldered by taxpayers had been for the security measures and police presence to control the crowd.
The lawyers of Prince Harry and Meghan said that the billion-dollar estimation was possible if they factored in the boost in retail and restaurants during that royal wedding. It was alleged that over 50,000 people in the crowd were Americans who willingly lined up to watch Prince Harry and Meghan get married while visiting the country.
Meanwhile, together as husband and wife, Prince Harry and Meghan have a combined wealth of over $25 million. Prince Harry has money from his inheritance from the Queen Mother and from Princess Diana, while Meghan has a net worth close to $7 million from her former work as a TV actress.
Prince Harry and Meghan also receive support from Prince Charles. For their first year away from the royal family, the Prince of Wales said that he will help the Duke and Duchess of Sussex financially.
