In the Dark season 3 is officially happening on The CW, but there's still a question when it comes to its release date. Some things should be considered first, especially since the second installment has just recently concluded.
In January 2020, The CW already renewed In the Dark season 3 so there is no need to worry about the future of the series. But then, for those who are eager to see the new season, they might need to wait for a while. Because of the global health crisis, nothing is certain right now.
The first two seasons premiered in the spring. While that's the earliest we can expect to see the third installment, things could change depending on the situation. The entire schedule of The CW for 2020-2021 has been pushed back with a few exceptions.
The network currently has the series for a midseason premiere, which normally arrives in April. However, since most September premieres have been pushed to January, the midseason series -- like In the Dark -- won't likely be airing until June 2021.
In terms of filming, In the Dark season 3 is also facing some challenges -- just like any other shows out there. Even though most of The CW programs aren't in a bad position due to their Canadian productions, there are still limitations and health guidelines that should be followed.
As for what's coming in In the Dark season 3, Murphy and her friends will likely face some new mysteries. The second installment sees the characters wrapped up in drug dealing and money laundering. The season ended with Murphy catching a break and getting off easy.
However, Josh was able to put all the pieces together and figured out what Murphy's role in the Nia Bailey saga. He doesn't want her to get away with everything she's done, which has led Murphy to run. The third installment could see Murphy and friends dodging Josh to avoid getting into further trouble.
Most of the main cast will return in the third installment, including Perry Mattfeld as Murphy Mason, Brooke Markham as Jess Damon, Morgan Krantz as Felix Bell, Casey Deidrick as Max Parish, as well as Keston John as Darnell James.
But, one of the main characters is not coming back in the series following the events that happened in the season 2 finale. Rich Sommer won't be returning as Dean Riley in the third installment. But although he departed, the series could promote some recurring players into regulars.
For instance, Josh (plays by Theodore Bhat) could play a huge part in Murphy's story. In addition, the former partner of Dean, Gene (Matt Murray), may continue investigating the gang's crime. In the Dark season 3 also needs to address the future of Chloe (Calle Walton).
