Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have turned their backs on royal life to make a fresh start in the United States. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex officially stepped down from their senior royal roles at the end of March, after announcing their withdrawal earlier this year.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry revealed in their withdrawal announcement that they wished to be “financially independent.” Since the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will no longer get any funding from the Firm after their official step down, the CEO of Republic Graham Smith, which is a British republican pressure group, said that the pair should find sources of income to pay for their lavish lifestyle.

"I think most people would be surprised by any suggestion that people sitting on £30million in the bank might struggle in any way financially. So I think if they want to live the lifestyle that people with £100million do then they have a problem,” he said.

Graham Smith pointed out that the U.K. doesn’t owe Meghan Markle and Prince Harry a penny. He also rejected the Duchess of Sussex’s claim that her royal wedding provided an economic boost for Britain. "There just isn’t any evidence to support that whatsoever,” he noted.

The Republic's CEO believes that it’s actually the other way around. He said that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s 2018 wedding was a "net-loss" for UK taxpayers.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump had made it clear that the U.S. government will not pay for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s security, so they have to do it themselves.

This may not be a problem for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry as they have multi-million net worths. Also, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said in their announcement that they wish to be “financially independent” after their royal exit, so they may have already sorted things out.

There were whispers and speculations that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will try their luck in the entertainment scene.

Meghan Markle already did her Hollywood comeback when she narrated for a Disney documentary titled Elephant back in August last year and was released last month. Although early reviews revealed that the former actress did an “underwhelming” job, it was a taste of the couple’s possible future job.

In fact, Prince Harry even showed interest in doing voiceovers as well. When the Duke and Duchess of Sussex met Disney CEO Bob Iger at the London premiere of The Lion King, he shared that he’s open to doing that kind of job.
