Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton’s children are the youngest generations of royals. While their pregnancies were heavily celebrated, a resurfaced report revealed that the Duchesses struggled with Queen Elizabeth’s pregnancy rules.
According to a US Weekly feature in 2013, Queen Elizabeth finds the term “pregnant” quite vulgar. And because of that, Her Majesty describes pregnant women as “in the family way.”
However, Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle didn’t use this term when they announced their pregnancies. When the Duchess of Cambridge was pregnant with Pince George in 2012, a St James’ Palace spokesman announced that she is “expecting a baby.”
As for Meghan Markle, the announcement of her pregnancy was also similar. But instead of a spokesperson, Prince Harry and his wife shared the good news on social media. The tweet stated that the Duchess of Sussex was “expecting a baby in the Spring of 2019.”
Both Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle did not use Queen Elizabeth’s preferred term, which is "in the family way.”
This is not the first time that Meghan Markle didn’t seem to agree with Queen Elizabeth’s preference. It was previously reported that the Duchess of Sussex may not be a fan of Her Majesty’s jewelry collection as she was only seen wearing it once.
The Royal family may have exclusive titles in their names, but they do things like other regular families do — like sharing pieces of jewelry. Daughters would usually borrow some earrings, bracelets, and necklaces from their moms when they’re going to an important occasion. This is no different in the royal household.
In fact, Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle have been spotted wearing some precious stones from Queen Elizabeth’s jewelry collection in certain events and outings. But it seems like the Duchess of Cambridge is more of a fan of Her Majesty’s gems than the former actress as she still continuously borrows from the Queen's collection.
Rumor has it that Queen Elizabeth assured Prince William that Princess Diana’s accessories will only be worn by his wife. This sparked speculations that Prince Harry’s wife is banned from borrowing them.
Although there is no solid proof to confirm that Meghan Markle is banned from borrowing some items from Queen Elizabeth’s jewelry collection, many believe that the Duchess of Sussex doesn’t seem to have the same privilege as Kate Middleton. However, there is still the possibility that Meghan may have not worn pieces from Her Majesty' collection simply because the designs don’t suit her taste.
